At the School Board’s July 28, 2020 meeting, the Board approved the Radnor Township School District (RTSD)  administration’s recommendation that the school year begin in a hybrid format.

However, at the August 18, 2020 School Board meeting, the Administration provided additional recommendations as a result of updated guidance from the Chester County Health Department based on the current and anticipated local pandemic conditions. The Health Department made a new recommendation that all public and private schools begin the 2020-2021 school year in a virtual format and assess the possibility of transitioning to in person instruction no earlier than October 9.

The RTSD administration provided options to the board for how to begin the school year, including adhering to the Health Department’s latest guidance. The School Board ultimately adopted the Health Department’s recommendation to begin virtually but committed to reassess the option to transition to in-person instruction at a September 22 board meeting, four weeks sooner than the October 9 reassessment date recommended by the Chester County Health Department.

At the September 22, 2020 School Board meeting, the Board approved the RTSD administration’s proposal to return to classrooms in a hybrid model beginning September 29 for grades K-2, 6, 9 and 12; October 1 for grades 3, 4 and 5; and October 2 for grades 7, 8, 10 and 11.

These Board approved 9/29, 10/1 and 10/2 Radnor in-person school start dates were earlier than what the Chester County Health Department recommended.

These start dates also made Radnor the first school district among the 15 in Delaware county and 12 in Chester county to resume in-person instruction.

In addition, at the September 22 meeting, the Board approved the PA required Pandemic Health and Safety Plan that included authorization for the RTSD administration to make any adjustments to the timeline for these instructional models from that point forward.

As of September 22, 2020 and throughout the entire 2020-21 school year, the RTSD administration initiated all of the school instructional format decisions.
